Base Camp
The entry point of the charismatic Har Ki Doon, Sankri is the base camp for this exhilarating expedition. It is a beautiful village conveniently located on a stunning 1950 meter summit, with panoramic views of the Himalayas in the Tons Valley. It is the last village road head on the route of the trek and is magically located at a distance of 13 km inside Govind Wildlife Sanctuary. Some private hotels can be found here along with government-run guesthouses to accommodate travellers and trekkers. Apart from being a campsite for various treks, it also has wonderful grounds for camping and bonfires. The glimmer of Swargarohini peak with the beautiful sun setting behind the Himalayas makes Sankri a perfect base camp amidst the ridges.
Best Season To Visit
Har Ki Dun Trek takes you through an exciting drive from the famous city of Dehradun to Sankri, which is the base camp of this trekking expedition. A fairly popular campsite among travellers and trekkers, it is the starting point of various exploratory accounts. Snow can be seen in the winter months, which can be from the month of December to mid-April, with excellent weather suitable for trekking throughout the year except for monsoon. In the winter months, which can be from December to the middle of April, snow can be seen. Spring is the best time to indulge in this trip, as the meadows of flowers and snow dotted with valleys make for a thrilling visit. Average temperatures range from 1 °C to 5 °C, although the nights are quite cold and there is a steep drop below freezing point. Generally, most trekking enthusiasts undertake this trek sometime during the months of May to October, which results in safer weather conditions and better predictable trekking conditions.

Elevation Point
The Har Ki Doon trekking expedition starts from the beautiful city of Dehradun and takes you on an exciting drive to reach the basecamp of Sankri. The drive takes you through the enchanting villages of Nainbagh, Purola and Natwar among others. Sankri offers amazing views of the picturesque Himalayas with a height of 1950 meters. Trekking to the mysterious taluka situated at a distance of 2075 meters from here, one can see the Tons river and the small settlement located here. Trek further to Osla which is situated at an altitude of 2560 meters and has its beautiful village decorated with a carved temple. Reach your trekking destination of Har Ki Doon which is at a distance of 3556 meters. Retrace your steps while descending to Osla and then to Sankri before landing at Dehradun.
Permits
Required entry fees at certain checkpoints, permits for the trek and mandatory forest camping charges in the area will be covered for the entire length of the trek as part of the organizers’ trekking campaign. Please carry your Identity Proof such as a Driving License or Voter ID along with a passport size photograph, a medical certificate assuring your fitness for the trek and a Disclaimer Certificate confirming your submission to voluntarily participate in the trek. You may also need to obtain a permit for Govind Wildlife Sanctuary and/or any equivalent forest fee as per the requirement.
Advice And Expectation
The expedition is the perfect experience to enjoy the thrill of the Himalayas, yet it has extreme conditions and is generally considered to be of moderate to the difficulty level of difficulty. Prepare well with regards to clothing and other protective equipment to endure unpredictable mountain weather, as it can be very cold. Keep your trekking gear safe and always have essentials like a wind-proof jacket, dry socks and hat on hand. Make sure you choose the right and good quality shoes and fitted shoes to avoid frostbite. Wear the right type of socks to facilitate blood circulation. Carry a sturdy sleeping bag that is durable and comfortable. Carry a good quality backpack that can ensure the harshest conditions of wear and tear, especially one with a plastic or waterproof lining. Carry your identity proof with you as you may be expected to present it to the authorities.
