Top 10 Tips for an Incredible Bir Billing Paragliding Experience

1) Do your research

Bir Billing is one of the most popular paragliding spots in the world, with good reason. With a high-quality launch site, spectacular views, and a friendly atmosphere, it’s a perfect place to get your first taste of flying. Getting there is easier said than done – so here are our top tips for making sure you make it to Bir Billing with ease:
-Try to arrive at least one day before you plan on launching.

2) Get a good night’s sleep

A good night’s sleep is essential to a successful day of adventure. As a matter of fact, it’s probably one of the most important things you can do before taking on any physical activity. The best way to get a full night’s sleep is to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even if you’re going to be getting up early in the morning.

3) Dress appropriately

  • Dress in layers so you can adapt to changes in the weather and altitude.
  • Pack a water bottle to keep hydrated on the hike up and drink plenty of water before you fly. Drink even more water after your flight to avoid dehydration and muscle cramping from flying in dry air.
  • Wear sunblock as it’s easy to burn at these high elevations, especially when you’re hiking around or flying with the wind in your face.

4) Check the weather conditions

Bir Billing is a remote village in the Himalayas, and there are no roads that lead to it. That means you have to fly in by paraglider. The best time to go is from November-April because of the lack of rain and low winds. The hours of operation are 9am-4pm. Check the weather conditions before you go and make sure you bring enough warm clothing for the cold nights.

5) Arrive early

Arriving early to your appointment will help you get situated. This means you will have time to check in, drop off your bags, and take care of any other logistics before the day begins. Arrive at least two hours early if you’re hiking up the mountain, or one hour early if you’re paragliding from the top of the hill.

6) Listen to the briefing

At the briefing, you will be given a safety talk, and have the opportunity to ask any questions. The briefing may last anywhere from 30 minutes to one hour depending on how many people are there.

9) Smile for the camera

  • Make sure you’ve got all your essentials packed – camera, phone, sunblock, snacks, and drinks. You may want to pack some extra clothes in case the weather changes. The last thing you want is to be stuck on the side of a mountain without food or drink in thunderstorms or blizzard conditions.
  • Check out the weather forecast before departing. This is especially important if you’re new to paragliding and may not have as much experience with wind conditions and soaring.

10) Have fun!

To book a flight you’ll need to contact the paragliding company and make arrangements. The best time to fly is usually in the mornings when the air is still cool and dry. It’s always best to check the weather forecast before you fly, as it can change quickly and wreak havoc on your flying plans.
